Winter Golf and How to Play Your Best Game
As the colder months are here, it doesn’t mean the end of your golf season. There are many benefits to playing golf in the cooler climate and can give a different perspective when it comes to the fairways and greens.
Here are some great tips to playing your best game during winter:
- Layer up: When it comes to clothing, layering your clothing is essential to staying warm without restricting your swing. As your body warms, you can remove layers easily without holding up your game. Don’t forget a beanie, gloves and waterproof shoes to keep the elements at bay. Our Pro Shop stocks a wide range of winter gear to get your fairway ready this season.
- Adjust Your Game Play: Did you know cold conditions can affect ball flight and course conditions. With the cold air denser, this can reduce the ball’s carry distance. When it comes to tricky conditions, play shorter and controlled shots to avoid unpredictable hits and misses. If you are looking for a tune up on your game play, book a session with our resident PGA Professional.
- Warm-Up Properly: Warming up the body is essential in the cooler temperature. Arrive at the course half an hour prior to your round and hit the range or practice green with a small bucket of balls to get the body moving.
- Local rules: Check with the Pro Shop on local rules. Ground Under Repair (GUR) and preferred lies are common this time of year with additional hazards in play.
- Ditch the golf cart: Water on the course softens the fairways! By walking, you are reducing potential damage caused by golf carts. And don’t forget to leave your buggy on the side of the greens!
- Divots and sand buckets: Repair divots as you go and always carry a sand bucket. It takes a little longer during winter for the ground to repair!
When it comes to golf, it is the perfect year round sport for players of all ages and abilities. Don’t let the cooler weather put your off your game. Chat to our PGA Professional team for more tips and tricks to help your game.
